Øystein Soug’s route to biotech leadership was anything but conventional: military training, finance roles in Russia and China, and more than a decade as a CFO before biotechnology offered an unexpected change of direction.
Today, Soug leads Oncoinvent and the development of Radspherin, a receptor-independent alpha-emitting radiopharmaceutical designed to treat cancers that have spread to the abdominal cavity. Rather than relying on biological targeting, the therapy is delivered directly into the peritoneum – an approach intended to concentrate radiation around residual cancer cells while limiting exposure elsewhere in the body.
Soug discusses the lessons learned from helping bring Xofigo to market, why manufacturing and supply chains remain radiopharma’s stubbornest challenges, and the possibilities created by new isotopes, delivery methods, and combination strategies. He also reflects on Oslo’s emergence as a radiopharmaceutical hub and the everyday realities of leadership: solving problems, making decisions, and putting in the hours.
